It’s almost Halloween, friends. Spooky season is well underway and that means that it is time to pick some movies to watch. This year Couch Thing is giving you a list of five great slashers to keep you warm while you sip something pumpkin spice flavored (or some well-aged bourbon, it’s up to you) 5. Sleepaway Camp This grisly little slasher takes place at a summer camp, and unlike Friday the 13 th , it features actual campers- kids in danger from a mad killer. It is grimy and sleazy and has amazingly inventive and gory kills. Plus a twist that has become iconic! 4. The Burning Another summer camp where things go badly for the people involved. This one is a take on the Cropsey urban legend. It features very earlier appearances from Holly Hunter and George Costanza himself, Jason Alexander. Fists of Fury, like many Hong Kong Martial Arts films was released under several titles, including The Big Boss, Tang Shan Da Xiong, and China Mountain Big Brother. This film stars Bruce Lee (Enter the Dragon, Game of Death), as a young man who has sworn to forgo violence of any kind. He takes a job at an ice factory, and moves in with relatives and friends. Soon after Lee's arrival members of his group begin dissapearing, after being called to meet with the factory management. Soon Lee is forced to do battle with the Big Boss. Like most films of this genre the plot is really secondary; it exists merely to drive Lee toward the violent acts needed to precipitate his martial artistry. Since the fighting scenes are all that really matter, lets discuss their quality: Fists of Fury contains some of the best choreographed fighting to come out of Hong Kong in the seventies. Dabney Coleman Dead at 92

Dabney Coleman was a formative part of my childhood. Not for his roles in The Man with One Red Shoe, Hot to Trot, 9 to 5 or so many other roles but for his work as Jack Flack in Cloak and Dagger. This underseen fantasy espionage film starring Henry Thomas (E.T. the Extra Terrestrial) as a kid who finds a secret microchip inside a video game cartridge and is instantly embroiled in spy business came and went without many people noticing. But, for a kid like me, it was an instant classic. I pried apart one of my Atari 2600 games just to see what I might find. Coleman sort of steals the show playing dual roles: Jack Flack, the imaginary super spy from a video game who exists as a child’s imaginary friend and stand-in father figure and Hal Osborne, the distant father who Jack is standing in for. It’s an extraordinary performance from one of the greats. Dabney Coleman passed on at the age of 92. A giant walked here, and now he is gone. RIP.
