So, what do we think about the latest episode of The Mandalorian?
I'm not making any sort of amazing leap by pointing out that it's a bite of Seven Samurai (or The Magnificent Seven, or A Bug's Life, etc).
The Mandalorian has to save farmers who raise space anchovies from bandits who have terrorized them.
The episode is pretty by the numbers. It offers no real surprises and could be viewed as just a bit of filler while we wait for Baby Yoda and our Mandalorian to face off against more bounty hunters. And yet . . .
It works. We get a great new character, Cara Dune (Gina Carano). She sets up a dynamic that the show hasn't really explored before, and allows Mando to do some teamwork.
There are no major flaws in the episode. The action sequences play well. The villagers are maybe a bit underdeveloped , but that's not unexpected.
It's too early to know if the show will go somewhere novel, but I am along for the ride.
